Mission Style Lighting, much like the architecture that dominates the American Southwest, is more of a mission style revival. In the late 1800’s, designers in the bay area started emulating the Spanish-style missions that first brought European-descended civilization to the west. Mission style lighting is an elegant reminder of the past.
Overlapping with mission style lighting, prairie style lighting has some similar characteristics. Prairie style lighting is essentially the prairie’s response to southwestern simplicity. Prairie lights feature angular lines and geometrical patterns. The parent style to Craftsman and Bungalow designs, Mission themed lighting offer classic American style at the height of the 1800's.
